Media Player Spotlight: Amazon Fire Stick 4k

It’s not just for Netflix - Amazon’s Fire Stick 4k makes an excellent digital signage player!

The Ultimate Low-Cost 4K Media Player

Since it was first released in 2014, Amazon's Fire Stick media player has been a low-cost way to stream content like Netflix, YouTube and HBO on any screen that has an HDMI input. The Fire Stick was designed to be easy to set up and connect to WiFi, it comes with a free remote control, and it's available in most countries for less than $50 via Amazon Prime. Fortunately for XOGO customers, the device can also be used as a powerful, affordable digital signage player. Let's examine some reasons why:

Low Cost

At the time of writing, Fire Stick 4k's are available for under $50 apiece on Amazon (in fact they are often on sale for as little as $25). This is a fraction of what one would pay for a full-blown computer. Combined with XOGO's low monthly (or annual) software subscription, getting into digital signage has never been so easy or affordable.

Easy Setup

The Fire Stick 4k comes with a remote control, which makes it incredibly easy to connect the device to your WiFi network (there’s also an optional ethernet adapter) and download our free XOGO Player app. When you launch XOGO Player on your Fire Stick, you'll see our familiar PIN code screen and then you can connect your Fire Stick to XOGO Manager like any other player device. Check out our getting started instructions if you need help.

App Auto-Start

When you download XOGO Player on your Fire Stick, by default it will automatically launch and play your signage content whenever your Fire Stick turns on (this can be turned off if you want). This means that you don’t need to hunt for the remote every morning or worry about relaunching the app in case of a power failure - if your Fire Stick is on, then your content is playing! And like all media players, the Fire Stick will cache your images and videos so they keep playing even if the device loses Internet connectivity.

Available Worldwide

Amazon is currently available in 19 global markets (and growing) so products like the Fire Stick 4k can be ordered and quickly delivered to hundreds of millions of customers around the world. Fire Sticks are available for overnight delivery via Amazon Prime in most countries.

Runs XOGO Like a Champ

Amazon Fire Sticks, and the 4k version in particular, perform very well when running XOGO Player. We've tested 4k video playback, many different dynamic content feeds, and of course huge playlists of 4k images, with no reduction in player performance.

Does Double-Duty

Of course one of the most compelling things about an Amazon Fire Stick is the app ecosystem. While you will most likely be using your Fire Stick as a digital signage player most of the time, you can of course still use it to run apps like Netflix or HBO during off hours. Just use the included remote control to navigate to whatever app you'd like to have playing.

Continued Investment by XOGO

Amazon recently made additional parts of its platform and APIs available to app developers like XOGO, and we intend to continue investing in the Fire TV platform to leverage every feature that we can for XOGO Player.

Important Note

While we highly recommend the Fire Stick 4K and Fire Stick 4K Max, XOGO Player can also be installed on the standard (HD) Amazon Fire Stick as long as you do not plan to have any 4K content in your XOGO playlist. XOGO Player can not be installed on the Fire Stick Lite, however; that device is ad-supported and does not allow 3rd party apps like ours to be installed.

Summary

Amazon's Fire Stick 4k is not only a media streaming device; it's also a powerful and affordable digital signage media player. Users can install XOGO Player from the Amazon App Store in seconds and immediately have 4k digital signage content playing across their screens. We recommend the Fire Stick 4k for anyone looking to run digital signage, whether your organization is large or small.
